Magic Mouse Disable Scrolling Option For Mac: How to Stop Accidental Scrolling and Improve Your Prod

With its wireless and multi-touch capabilities, the Apple Magic Mouse is quite magical indeed. That is until you dive deep into multi-page PDFs, large spreadsheets and other documents that require extra fine mouse control. The Magic Mouse can be sensitive and easily cause you to lose your place with the slightest movement. This can only lead to anger, frustration and lost time. Lets disable Magic Mouse scrolling once and for all.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle []).push();3. You have a few options now to fine tune your scrolling. To completely disable scrolling, uncheck the scrolling checkbox. You can also leave it checked and modify your scrolling by either adjusting the scroll speed from slow to fast or changing the drop down menu from with inertia to without inertia. To finalize your changes click done.

Magic Mouse Disable Scrolling Option For Mac

Now you know how to disable Magic Mouse scrolling completely. However some people may want to disable only the horizontal scrolling and leave the vertical scrolling on. To do this you will have to use the Terminal. The Terminal application is located in your Applications/Utilities folder. Although not difficult to complete we would recommend for advanced users only.

Is there a way to configure the magic mouse to disable ALL side swipes? I'm having trouble configuring it to turn off 1, 2, and 3 finger swipes. I don't want to side swipe at all. In the Swipes configuration tab I have all 3 check boxes checked and the sensitivity set all the way to harder.

I see the option to "Disable Single Finger Horizontal Scrolling" however the problem is that I often have 2 fingers resting on my mouse. I would like an option to disable horizontal scrolling completely regardless of how many fingers. Let me know if that makes sense.

Sorry to butt in here, but I have the feeling that there is something being misunderstood, Andreas. In the panel you show above, the second tick box on the right says "disable single finger horizontal scrolling". If this were to work a good part of people's problems with Magic Mouse hypersensitivity would be solved. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work any longer (a few versions back, it did). Similarly, if one could set a region on the mouse for such horizontal scrolling/swipes" to be limited to (and thus ignored everywhere else), that too might solve the problem, but again, this doesn't seem to work. If the OS has changed and no longer allows that kind of control, fine, please just tell us so that we can yell at Apple

If you happen to have a new Magic Mouse running on OS X 10.5, you may be disappointed to find that it lacks a feature you get with Snow Leopard: momentum scrolling. Momentum scrolling is the iPhone-like behavior whereby you can flick your finger and have a list continue to scroll while slowly coming to a stop. In 10.6, you can enable this option for your Magic Mouse, but the preference is missing in 10.5.

The Natural Scrolling option changes how a vertical swipe moves the on-screen content. When enabled, scrolling upwards on the trackpad pushes content upwards. However, users accustomed to traditional Windows laptops may find this off-putting: disable Natural Scrolling to make the scrolling stop being reversed, or inverted, compared to what you expect.

I am making slides using xaringan in RStudio and on my Mac, the magic mouse scroll is too sensitive and basically makes using my mouse as a pointer very difficult. Is there a way to disable mouse scrolling?

I am noticing extreme sensitivity to vertical movements on a mac magic mouse resulting in unexpected and undesired switching of script tabs in Rstudio. I've noticed this on a few versions and different computers and have never been able to find any answers through googling.

Edit > Preferences > General > "Zoom with Scroll Wheel" is checked, then the Alt + scroll is disabled. But when you uncheck the option of "Zoom with Scroll Wheel", then Alt + scroll is enabled.

I don't have a perfect solution, but if you install BetterTouchTool you can use it to deactivate option + vertical scrolling only in Illustrator. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a feature to restrict opt + horizontal scrolling in specific apps, but I find (at least personally) that most of my accidental scrolls are vertical, anyway.

I bought a Magic mouse and Keyboard to go with my new Mac Mini - hmm think that was a mistake. Stuff magically moving in front of me - not sure if I will ever get used to this beast and I have been trying since Mid December...

I don't think the problem is the magic mouse. I have a magic mouse 1 and 2. When I use Illustrator I don't have the same problem. I think Illustrator has permanently turned down the fidelity though. Panning in Illustrator is not smooth, and it shifts in about 5px increments. However, my solution is to turn the panning fidelity down ONLY on mouse down (like Illustrator). Turn the fidelity back up on mouse up. I don't know if this is possible, but obviously this is not a big problem in Illustrator. I still love your product though.

I have used a magic mouse for years. For the most part it works great for me in all the apps I use including Illustrator and Photoshop. Still waiting for some maturity before jumping on board with my Affinity software.

The Problem is, that Affinity is far to sensitive. I think there should be an option to disable scrolling gestures while holding down the mouse button. Or even better only allow scrolling with a second finger.

We can slow down the scrolling speed for both the mouse or Touchpad. under the Mac System settings > Accessibility > Pointer control > Mouse Options and Scroll speed. Slow down and try the speed on document, or On Browser.

This is to check and fix the minor glitches existing in your Bluetooth utility that cause Bluetooth won't turn on MacBook. Consequently, the Apple mouse not working. You need to select the Apple icon > System Preferences > Bluetooth. Then, click Turn Bluetooth Off to disable it. After a few seconds, turn it on.

In the mouse preferences window, move the sliders to debug the configuration options, including the Tracking speed, Scrolling speed, and Double-click speed. You can also check the Secondary click option to enable right-click available on your Magic Mouse if it was unchecked.

Go to System Preferences > Software Update to check if there're any software updates available. Updating your Mac will fix the system bugs or errors that make your Mac mouse not working or scrolling properly.

By default, on mac scrolling direction is set to natural for the mouse and trackpads. Natural Scrolling works as you work on a touchscreen. Moving your finger up on the mouse/trackpad will move the page up (scroll down) and vice versa. Therefore, if you are used to windows, you will find it frustrating to use a mouse/trackpad on a mac.

Kindly read along to learn how to change the scroll direction on Mac for the mouse and trackpads, Set Different Scroll Directions for Mouse and Trackpad with change scrolling speed on Mac settings, turn off inertia scrolling on Mac, etc.

Have you ever tried using the external mouse with your macOS? If yes, you must face the mouse problem following the trackpad scrolling direction. However, the Natural direction for the Trackpad and external mouse is different.

Suppose you think you will change the scroll direction for the mouse and unchanged trackpad setting. For example, you disable natural Scrolling for the mouse from the setting, and trackpad natural scrolling is enabled. However, if you enable natural Scrolling for one device will automatically change the natural scrolling setting for another device.

With Inertial Scrolling, your content will continue to scroll down even after you stop scrolling until it gradually stops. Many people will feel uncomfortable with the inertial scrolling feature. Therefore, they want to disable inertial Scrolling on Mac.

Recently I started using tmux inside my terminal on my Mac. However now whenever I'm in a tmux session and I scroll up or down using my mouse, it scrolls through my command history instead of scrolling through my terminal pane. How do I disable this feature and make mouse scrolling go back to the default behavior?

What happened most likely is that you were, either locally or remotely, running a command (like vim, or top, or many programs that use libraries similar to ncurses) that uses the terminal's "alternate screen" mode. When this is active, many terminal programs helpfully remap the scrolling action on the mouse to arrow keys, because generally scrolling the local display is less than helpful. If this application terminated ungracefully, your terminal may still think it's in that mode.

The reason for this is probably that your terminal sends Up and Down keys for the mouse wheel when applications are in "cursor positioning mode" but do not request the mouse themselves, which is the case for tmux with the mouse option off.

As mentioned by @Nicholas Marriott in a comment, a set-option -g mouse on line in your .tmux.conf will probablly do what you want. (Make sure you're using the latest tmux version.) This sets a global option that turns on mouse interactivity.

But I really would like to ask for the same thing:A checkbox somewhere to switch off mouse scrolling in the ribbon. Because it is really very very annoying. Buschmann - 31 Jul 01:33PM Hide picture While i totaly agree on a general basis, dude, i was so mad at that scrolling that i think some simple, honest profanity should be allowed. And a simple "damn" that wasn't aimed for somebody, and the totalt overkill of the number of "damn's" should make it clear that it was ment as a joke, with substance. I dont see why andybody should have a reason to be upset. But enough chitchat. Developers; I agree with mr. demanmetdeneus. Please, please, pretty please excuse my cursing and let us have a checkbox that turns that damn thing of. According to those threads, some users have solved the problem by changing their mouse. But I suppose that it might also be possible to re-configure the Mac OS not to recognise those gestures. All applications that use a Ribbon User Interface will scroll the ribbon tabs if (a) the mouse pointer lies within the ribbon, and (b) the user sends a scroll request.-- Sibelius 7.5.1/7.1.3/6.2/5.2.5, PhotoScore Ult 7.0.2, Dolet 6.3 for Sibelius, Windows 7 32-bit SP1, 4GB RAM Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.5: Disable mouse scroll through ribbon Posted by Bob Porter - 31 Jul 02:23PM Hide picture I don't have 7.5, yet. I hope there will be an option to turn it off, i quite like my mouse.Bob: No, i think it has been there since the ribbon appeared. I dont know if its exclusive to the apple mouse, but i doubt that. The problem is that this is a mouse driven GUI, and the sensitivity is of the scale, it will explode to every where on the ribbon, whether i want it to, or not. I see it as a good idea thats not working. That's not OK in any way. Bob and Peter: There is a profound case of cultural crash here. Lets leave the ax there.
