Download Oracle Database 10g Release 2 10.2.0.5: What's New and How to Install It



Installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 2 (10.2.0.5) requires previous release of Grid Control to be 10.2.0.1.0.or higher. If you do not have a previous release, but want to have a 10.2.0.5.0 Grid Control environment, then first install 10.2.0.1.0 Grid Control and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.5.0.


Download the GridControl_10.2.0.5_.zip patch set installation archive to any directory on the host where Oracle Management Service is running. The patch set can be downloaded from the following location:

Oracle recommends that you back up the Oracle home that will be upgraded using this Patch Set. In the case of a Management Repository, Oracle recommends that you back up the repository database before applying the Patch set because the Patch Set makes changes to the repository that cannot be rolled back. If your Additional management agent version is 10.1.0.x and you want to upgrade it to 10.2.0.5 version then you have to first download the 10.2.0.5.0 Agent Software from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN):-


After the Full (Base) Release 2 is installed, you can upgrade using the Patch Installer (Agent, OMS, and Management Packs) for Release 5 (10.2.0.5). This Release 5 patch can also be downloaded from the same direct Enterprise Manager Downloads page on OTN as follows:


Once the DBVisualizer tool is downloaded and installed, you next need to determine which database your PI system is using. To check this log onto your PI system (ABAP stack) and check System -> Status.


When I get tis failure message do Ihave to install the 10.2.0.5 Version to use the database properly on Windows 7 or can I leave it at the Version 10.2.0.4?BTW: Thank you very much for the post!

Oracle has just officially released the CPU / PSU Patches for october 2011. In contrast to the previously announced 56 bug fixes, there are now 57 bug fix. It looks like another bug fix for databases has been added to the CPU / PSU bundle. Never the less none of them is remote exploitable without authentication. None of these fixes are applicable to client-only installations. The maximum CVSS rating for the database vulnerabilities is still 6.5.


On January 19th Oracle released the first Critical Patch Update (CPU) for 2011. This CPU includes up to 66 security fixes across all product families. The number looks quite high, but thats just because SUN Products like Open Office and the SUN Product Suite covered as well by this CPU. For database server issues there are only 7 security fixes, where 5 fixes are for the Oracle Database Server, 1 is for Oracle Secure Backup and 1 for Oracle Audit Vault. The one for Oracle Audit Vault may be remote exploit without any authentication and has a CVSS score of 10. The highest CVSS score of the 5 security fixes for the Oracle Database Server is 7.5 which is still fairly high. I would therefor highly recommended to apply this security fix on Audit Vault installation and recommend to install it as well on Oracle Database Server as soon as possible.


After upgrading to Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1) from INDIRECT database upgrade release like Oracle Database9i Release 2 (9.2) or Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1), the CONNECT role has only the CREATE SESSION privilege; the other privileges granted to the CONNECT role in earlier releases are revoked during the upgrade. To identify which users and roles in your database are granted the CONNECT role, use the following query:


During the upgrade to Oracle Database 12c any passwords in database links are encrypted.To downgrade to the original release, all of the database links with encrypted passwords must be dropped prior to the downgrade.Consequently, the database links do not exist in the downgraded database.If you anticipate a requirement to be able to downgrade to your original release, then save the information about affected database links from the SYS.LINK$ table, so that you can re-create the database links after the downgrade.


Note: If there is a pre-existing user in the database with same name as the 12.1 oracle-supplied users or roles, then move the data of that user to a different schema before dropping the pre-existing user.


Previous versions of the listener are not supported for use with an Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1) database.However, it is possible to use the new version of the listener with previous versions of Oracle Databases.If you are upgrading from 10.2.0.5 or upgrading manually without using DBUA, run Oracle Net Configuration Assistant before upgrading the Oracle RAC database.


The COMPATIBLE initialization parameter controls the compatibility level of your database.When you are certain that you no longer need the ability to downgrade your database to its original release
